Joy may be remembered by most Northwesterners for the stunt she pulled in honor of her hometown Seattle’s favorite waterlogged extravaganza, Seafair. Parachuting from a plane over Lake Union, she landed with pinpoint accuracy to dot the “i” on the Budweiser raft floating in front of the VIP barge. For Joy, that leap was only one of many. She also parachuted onto the bow of a yacht on Lake Union and thro herself off the top of El Capitan, the 3,600-foot granite cliff in Yosemite National Park. ”I’ve never been so scared in my life, either before or since,” Joy admits of her “El Cap” escapade.
